“Got to look at these games as knockouts now”: RCB Director Mo Babat

RCB remain at the bottom of the table in 10th position with only two points at the halfway stage of their IPL 2024 campaign. The defeat in this season highlighted RCB’s struggle in the tournament, despite individual brilliance from players like Kohli.

RCB Director Mo Babat stated that his team, currently not performing well in the league, needs to treat upcoming matches as must-win games, similar to knockout matches. He believes that winning the next 3-4 games in a row will boost their confidence and intimidate other teams. This approach aims to improve their standing in the league and make them a formidable opponent.

Mo Babat said, “we’re into the second half of the competition now and we’re not where we want to be in the league, got to look at these like knockout games now, if we can win the next 3-4 games in a row, belief comes and people become fearful of you”.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured a thrilling victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, claiming their fourth win in six matches. Despite RCB’s valiant effort, scoring the second-highest team total in IPL history with 263/7, they fell short, losing by 25 runs.

The match saw SRH post a formidable total of 287/3, the highest in IPL history, courtesy of explosive batting performances from their top order. RCB’s chase was led by a sensational century from their captain, Virat Kohli, who scored 114 off just 49 balls. However, RCB ultimately couldn’t match SRH’s total, leading to their sixth defeat in seven matches, and their fifth consecutive loss.

In the points table update after the match, SRH moved up to the 4th spot with eight points, level with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, both CSK and KKR have superior run rates, with KKR having played one game less.
