Gautam Gambhir criticized Virat Kohli as a captain

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir criticized Virat Kohli as a captain just before India’s semi-final match against New Zealand. The Indian team has been terrific in the World Cup 2019 till now and managed to reach the top four quite convincingly. But Gambhir is still not impressed with the captain.

Virat is Not A Good Captain

Gambhir, in conversation with TV9 India, said that Kohli loves his batting more than leading the team. According to him, Kohli has yet a long way to go as a captain and need to improve a lot. He also opined that Kohli has been a successful captain thus far because of the presence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma in the team. According to the former Kolkata Knight Riders captain, Kolhi would have managed to win at least one IPL if he was a good skipper.

Kohli has been leading Royal Challengers Bangalore for a long time but the team has yet to win a title. RCB’s best performance came under Kohli in 2016 when they made it to the final. This year they finished last in the points table. “Virat Kohli is a good captain for India only because he has MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma behind him. If you are talking about Kohli the captain, he would have won RCB an IPL title since he has taken over the captaincy there. Most of the times his team RCB has finished on number 8.” Gambhir had a successful IPL campaign as the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders.

But Virat is a Good Batsman

But the ex-cricketer turned politician was full in praise for Virat Kohli’s batting while talking with the news channel. He said, “Virat as a batsman is in top four, but as a captain, he is way below Dhoni and Rohit. There is no one to give advice when Kohli leads RCB.” The one who was instrumental in 2011 World Cup final to win the match for India is happy with the way Kohli is performing with the bat in this tournament.
