“For the sake of the Sports…”: Tennis Superstar Mahesh Bhupathi slams RCB owners

The dismal performance of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2024 has led to frustration and disappointment among fans and even legendary India tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi. Bhupathi has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to enforce the sale of the franchise to a new owner. RCB has lost six out of their seven games so far in the tournament, putting them in a difficult position to qualify for the playoffs.

Bhupathi, a 12-time Grand Slam champion in men’s doubles and mixed doubles, expressed his disappointment with RCB’s performance and suggested that a new owner could bring fresh ideas and strategies to the franchise, which has not been able to win the IPL trophy in its 17 seasons.

Bhupathi said, “For the sake of the Sport, the IPL, the fans and even the players I think BCCI needs to enforce the sale of RCB to a new owner who will care to build a sports franchise the way most of the other teams have done so.”

RCB’s struggles continued in their recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where Travis Head’s century and Heinrich Klaasen’s aggressive innings propelled Sunrisers to a record-breaking total of 287/3. Despite valiant efforts from RCB’s Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik, they fell short, losing the match by 25 runs.

The poor performance of RCB has sparked discussions about the future of the franchise and the need for significant changes to improve their performance in future seasons.
