Don’t drop Vijay Shankar for England Game: Kevin Pietersen Advises Virat Kohli

It seems like Vijay Shankar has found a new fan in the form of Kevin Pietersen. Pietersen tweeted a while back requesting the Indian team management to continue with the young lad. India will be playing England tomorrow at Edgbaston, so there’s no surprise why Pietersen has such a suggestion.

Why No To Shankar?

Vijay Shankar is currently the number four bat for the Indian cricket team in the World Cup 2019. Although KL Rahul was doing a good job, he was shifted to the opener’s slot and Shankar was included. The exclusion of Shikhar Dhawan for the World Cup means KL Rahul will permanently open for India in the rest of the tournament. But Shankar has not been able to deliver so far with bat and failed to provide any stability. His scores in World Cup so far is 15*, 14, and 29.

Now, this is a headache for Virat and co. currently. India is currently placed at the second position and is the only team to be undefeated until now in the World Cup. India’s wins so far have been majorly clinched by the bowling department. The middle order is often lacking the stability and the number four position is one of the most important middle-order places. Although Shankar delivered with the ball against Pakistan, that is not his primary job. So ideally he should be dropped from the team in the important match against England on Sunday.

Why Yes To Shankar From Pietersen?

But Pietersen, the former England batsman wants the Indian team to continue with their team combination for the match against the hosts. He tweeted with a request for the India captain Virat Kohli and their coach, Ravi Shastri. He tweeted, “Dear Virat and Ravi (Shastri) — please don’t drop Vijay Shankar. I think he’s coming into his own and would potentially win you tomorrow’s game. Don’t think about Pant. He needs another 3 weeks prep before I think he can get into your World Cup side. Thanks, boys!”

And there’s obviously no prize for guessing the reason!
