The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) has taken a significant step forward in the advancement of cricket technology by introducing SIS Grass hybrid pitch technology at the iconic HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. SISGrass, a division of the renowned Netherlands-based SIS Pitches group, is set to transform the cricketing landscape in India with its innovative hybrid pitch installation. This technology injects a small percentage of polymer fiber into natural turf, making the pitches more resilient and sustainable while maintaining the unique characteristics of natural grass.
HPCA President, Mr. R.P. Singh, expressed his excitement about the introduction of SISGrass technology, stating, “The Dharamshala Stadium is renowned for its scenic beauty and has become a sought-after venue for cricket matches. The installation of SISGrass’s hybrid pitch technology marks a significant milestone for Indian cricket, showcasing our commitment to excellence and innovation.”
The use of hybrid pitches will provide several benefits, including enhanced durability, consistent bounce, and reduced maintenance requirements, allowing ground staff to focus on other crucial aspects of pitch preparation. The technology will also ensure that practice pitches remain in top condition, providing players with optimal training facilities.
The Punjab Kings team is set to play two of their home matches at the Dharamshala Stadium during the IPL 2024 season. Their first match against the Chennai Super Kings is scheduled for May 5th, followed by a clash with the Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 9th. These matches are expected to showcase the capabilities of the new hybrid pitch and set a new standard for cricket pitches in India.
