After Delhi Capitals‘ recent victory over Lucknow Super Giants, former IPL-winning coach Tom Moody has advised the team to reconsider their opening pair, suggesting that Jake Fraser-McGurk should be given the opportunity to open the innings. Moody was particularly impressed by Fraser-McGurk’s performance in his debut game, where he scored a match-winning 55 runs from 35 deliveries.
Fraser-McGurk’s innings, which included five sixes, showcased his aggressive and fearless approach, leading Moody to believe that he should be allowed to face every ball in the powerplay. Moody emphasized the importance of taking risks and playing aggressively, especially since Delhi Capitals are currently in a precarious position, having won only two out of their six games in the IPL 2024 season.

” What we saw from Fraser-McGurk tonight. You want him to face every single ball in the power play because he’s got no off button and he’ll go and go hard. There’s yes, there’s a lot of experience there, but there’s a huge amount of upside to what he can offer and Delhi is in a position where they need to just win games of cricket, so they need to risk their game to accumulate wins,” Moody said.
The Australian also said the time was running out for the Capitals in terms of qualification for the playoffs and they must not impart conservative gameplay to accumulate points on the table.
“They can’t play conservatively and expect to play finals from where they are, you know, played six games, only won two. So they need to play a really aggressive brand of cricket, and their mindset needs to be aggressive. Therefore, their selection and the way they structure their side needs to also back that philosophy. So, for me, Fraser McGurk needs to be batting at the top of the order,” he added.
Fraser-McGurk’s explosive batting style and ability to dominate the opposition bowlers make him a valuable asset for Delhi Capitals, according to Moody. The coach’s advice comes at a crucial juncture for the team, as they aim to improve their performance and climb up the points table in the ongoing IPL season.
