Bhuvi’s injury put NCA under scanner again

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is out of the international cricket since coming back from the ODI series in the West Indies in August. But he is still not fit to be available for Indian cricket team selection. This has triggered controversy regarding the NCA activity.

How is Bhuvneshwar Kumar?

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is key pace bowler for India especially in the limited-overs format of the game. Following his injury, he missed the entirety of the South Africa series and now was unavailable for the selection of the team for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh in November. According to Time of India’s report, Bhuvi has been carrying the injury since the conclusion of the England tour and that is why his appearance for India team has been irregular.

This long duration of the treatment without any regular update once again put the National Cricket Academy under the scanner. Earlier the handling of injuries of Wriddhiman Saha, Jasprit Bumrah was criticized. Even the Prithvi Shaw case when the youngster tested positive for dope, the academy was questioned.

BCCI not satisfied

A source said, “He was not treated properly. His injury was allowed to aggravate because the team wanted to take him to the World Cup. He is still one of the first choices for white-ball cricket but he needs to get back onto the field before building up for next year’s T20 World Cup.”

According to a BCCI official’s version to the TOI, “If Bhuvneshwar’s injury is not as serious, they must come up with a clear explanation as to why it is taking him so long to get back on the field. The board announced that Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya needed to travel to England. Bumrah didn’t even need surgery.”

The official also mentioned about the unsatisfactory handling of injuries in past cases. He explained, “It’s becoming a trend now at the NCA. As it is, the institution is fighting a label of just being a rehab centre and these cases keep coming up. Saha lost a good year and half of his career”
