BCCI Fines 12 Lakh to KKR Captain Shreyas Iyer for Slow Over Rate in the clash against Rajasthan Royals

The last match of the IPL was a perfect thriller. On April 16, Kolkata Knight Riders faced Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens. Even after a brilliant performance by KKR batters, Jos Buttler turned the game with his brilliance. But after the match, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer was fined to maintain a slow over rate.

Iyer Has Been Fined:

Cricket enthusiasts of Kolkata have seen an exciting thriller match as Kolkata Knight Riders faced Rajasthan Royals. KKR faced a narrow defeat of 2 wickets. With that, they faced another setback. KKR captain Shreyas Iyer was fined ₹12 lakh by the BCCI for maintaining a slow over rate during an IPL 2024 match against the Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens. This infraction is considered a breach of the IPL Code of Conduct, making the captain responsible for the first offense.

KKR faced a disadvantage in the final over as they had to play with one fewer fielder in the deep due to their slow pace, which may have impacted the match’s outcome. This penalty underscores the importance of adhering to the over-rate regulations in IPL games.

On this matter, BCCI gave an official statement. They said, “ Shreyas Iyer, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on April 17.”

Later they added, “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Iyer was fined ₹12 lakh.”

RR’s Sensational win:

The match was highly anticipated as two big names were scheduled to face each other. From the beginning, the thrill was on. KKR opener Sunil Narine scored a brilliant century. He played a knock of 109 runs only in 56 balls. Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored 30 runs in 18 balls. After 20 overs, they put on a target of 224.

The target was not so easy to chase down. Buttler’s unbeaten 107 off 60 balls led the Rajasthan Royals to a thrilling victory, outshining Sunil Narine’s earlier century. Buttler’s steady fight from a slow start and a high asking rate culminated in hitting the winning runs on the final ball. RR achieved the joint-highest chase in IPL history, strengthening their top-table position. Despite KKR’s dominance for most of the match, RR’s remarkable 96-run sprint in the last six overs secured the win.
