Zimbabwe Cricketer Guy Whittall Injured in Leopard Encounter, Stable After Surgery

An exciting news hit the cricket world. Former Zimbabwe cricketer Guy Whittall got hurt by a leopard earlier this week. He needed surgery for wounds on his head and hand. Whittall, who used to play as an allrounder for Zimbabwe, was injured during the encounter with the Leopard.

Leopard Attacked Guy Whittal:

Former Zimbabwe cricketer Guy Whittall encountered a leopard earlier this week, resulting in injuries to his head and hand, requiring surgery. Thankfully, the 51-year-old is reported to be in stable condition. Whittall, a former international cricket star who represented Zimbabwe, was trekking in the Humani region when the incident occurred. His pet dog, Chikara, bravely intervened, engaging in a confrontation with the leopard. However, Chikara was also injured in the process, bitten by the wild animal. This courageous act by Whittall’s loyal companion likely saved him from more severe harm during the frightening encounter with the leopard.

Whittall has had similar experiences in the past. More than a decade ago, an eight-foot, 165kg Nile crocodile ventured from the river into his bedroom at his Humani game reserve. The crocodile entered the Humani lodge in Zimbabwe and spent the night lying quietly, just centimeters beneath an unaware Whittall.

During his career spanning from 1993 to 2003, Guy Whittall represented Zimbabwe in 46 Test matches and 147 ODIs. He amassed 2207 runs in Test cricket and 2705 runs in ODIs. Additionally, Whittall showcased his bowling prowess by claiming 51 wickets in Test matches and 88 wickets in ODIs. His contributions in both Test and ODI cemented his significance as an all-round player for Zimbabwe during that era.

Guy’s Wife’s Social Media Post:

Confirmation of the 51-year-old surviving the leopard attack came from his wife Hannah’s social media post, which included images of the incident. Later Hannah said, “Evening all you special people. Guy and I are overwhelmed by the hundreds of messages of well wishers after guys run in with a wounded leopard earlier today. We are very fortunate that he was stabilized at Hippo Clinic by wonderful staff. He was then Airlifted from Buffalo Range by Ace Ambulance to Harare, then transferred to Milton Park Hospital for treatment.

Later she added, “He is currently awaiting surgery tomorrow morning as he lost alot of blood today. We will know more tomorrow when they remove the bandages in Theatre. To Vikus Jane and Nick Coetzee, you are incredible – Brent Hein for getting Guy to hospital. To Allianz Care- Miles Bennett and Rhona Gherke thank you!
