Gavaskar Lashes Out On Kohli After His Famous “Clap Back” Reply To Critics

Despite being among the leading run-getters in the present IPL 2024, Virat Kohli has come under the microscope of the critics. His strike rate, particularly against spin, has been a significant concern once more as Royal Challengers Bengaluru are still trying hard to get to the IPL 2024 playoffs while the India star prepares for the T20 World Cup in June.

However the star batsman went off in a rant to the critics after scoring 70* out of 44 balls in RCB’s match against Gujarat Titans. The RCB won that match by 9 whopping wickets. In the match, Kohli scored 61 runs at a strike rate of 179 against the spinners hence, proving the critics wrong.

Gavaskar lashes back after Kohli’s rant

As the GT vs RCB match ended, Virat Kohli couldn’t stop himself from speaking up and showing the critics what he’s made of.

“All people who talk about strike rates and me not playing spin well are the ones who love talking about this stuff [numbers]. But for me it’s just about winning the game for the team. And there is a reason why you do it for 15 years. Because you have done this day in and out.” said Kohli.

This did not fare well with Gavaskar, the ex-captain of Indian Cricket Team. Co incidentally, ahead of another GT vs RCB match today Sunil Gavaskar lashed on Star Sports for replaying the statement made by Kohli, only adding fuel to fire.

As a reply to Kohli’s statement,

“Commentators questioned only when the strike rate was 118. I’m not too sure. I don’t watch too many matches, so I don’t know what the other commentators have said otherwise. But if you have a strike of 118 and then you get out in the 14th or the 15th with a strike-rate of 118, I mean, if you want applause for that, that’s a little bit different. That’s different,” said Gavaskar.

Sunil calls out Virat on his hypocrisy

The legendary batter also lambasted Kohli for his hypocrisy in responding to critics after saying that he could care less about the outside noise. Gavaskar further added that the commentators don’t work with hidden agendas and are just doing their job.

“All these guys talk about, oh we don’t care about outside noise. Then why are you replying to any outside noise or whatever it is. We all played a bit of cricket, not a lot of cricket. We don’t have agendas. We speak about what we see. We don’t necessarily have any likes and dislikes. Even if we have likes and dislikes, we actually speak on what is happening,” said Gavaskar.
