In a surprising twist, Yuvraj Singh named South Africa as one of his semifinalist picks alongside traditional powerhouses India, Australia, New Zealand, and England. The former star cricketer believes that South Africa, often considered an underdog in ICC events, is due for success in white-ball cricket.
“Obviously India, Australia will be there (Semifinals). I will pick five teams as there’s always an upset in the World Cup. India, Australia, New Zealand, England, and I just feel South Africa is due. They need a white ball trophy,â Yuvraj Singh told The Week.
Ben Stokes: The Best All-Rounder
When quizzed about the current crop of all-rounders in world cricket, Yuvraj Singh did not hesitate to crown England’s Ben Stokes as the best all-rounder at the moment. While acknowledging the talents of players like Mitchell Marsh and Ravindra Jadeja, Yuvraj Singh emphasised the exceptional abilities of Ben Stokes.
“There are a lot of all-rounders around. Mitchell Marsh, Ravindra Jadeja, Ben Stokes is the No. 1 all-rounder at the moment. England have brought him back for the World Cup,â Yuvraj Singh affirmed.
Ben Stokes had previously announced his retirement from ODI cricket but reversed his decision to represent England in the upcoming ODI World Cup.
