The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Indian cricket legend Yuvraj Singh as the ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to be held in the United States. With just 36 days remaining until the tournament commences, Yuvraj’s appointment adds to the excitement surrounding the pinnacle global event for T20 cricket.
Yuvraj Singh, renowned for his memorable performances in T20 cricket, including hitting six sixes in an over during the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, expressed his excitement about being part of the upcoming edition. He stated, “Some of my fondest cricketing memories have come from playing at the T20 World Cup, including hitting six sixes in an over, so it’s very exciting to be part of this edition, which is set to be the biggest one yet.”
As the ambassador, Yuvraj will be involved in various promotional events leading up to and during the tournament, including the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan in New York on 9 June. He also highlighted the unique cricketing atmosphere in the West Indies and the growing popularity of cricket in the USA, expressing his enthusiasm to contribute to the sport’s growth in these regions through the T20 World Cup.
Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager – Marketing & Communications, praised Yuvraj’s association with the tournament, noting his iconic moments in T20 cricket, especially his feat of hitting six sixes in an over, which has become an integral part of the event’s history. Yuvraj joins Chris Gayle and Usain Bolt as the first ambassadors to be announced for the tournament, promising to enhance the excitement surrounding the event.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be held from 1-29 June, featuring 20 teams playing a total of 55 matches across 9 venues. The tournament will kick off with co-hosts USA facing Canada in the opening fixture at Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas, with the final scheduled to take place on 29 June in Barbados.
