Yuvraj Singh, the brand ambassador for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, has thrown his weight behind his “closest friend” Rohit Sharma, backing him to lead India to victory in the upcoming tournament in the USA and West Indies. The former cricketer, known for his explosive batting and match-winning performances, believes that Rohit’s leadership qualities make him the ideal candidate to guide the Indian team to success.
Currently in the US to promote the T20 World Cup and having attended the Miami Formula One Grand Prix, Yuvraj Singh played a pivotal role in India’s triumphs in both the T20I World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2011. Notably, he was awarded the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the 2011 ODI World Cup, which India won under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
Yuvraj emphasized the importance of having a captain who can make decisive calls under pressure, and he firmly believes Rohit Sharma fits the bill perfectly. “We need a really good captain, a sensible captain who takes decisions well under pressure. And he’s the one to take them,” said Yuvraj. “He was the captain when we lost in the (Cricket World Cup) 50-over final (in 2023). He has won five IPL trophies as a captain. I think we need somebody like him to captain India.”
Rohit Sharma’s leadership skills have been on display in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he has led the Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles, showcasing his ability to handle pressure and make the right decisions in crucial moments.
