New Zealand becomes the first team to announce the squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 to be held in England and Wales. The uncapped wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Blundell has been picked in the 15-member squad.
Blundell got lucky as Tim Seifert, the second choice wicketkeeper in the side, injured the little finger on his right hand while playing for Northern Districts in the domestic season.
Most of the players selected in the squad were expected to make the cut. The only debatable position was of the second all-rounder. Colin de Grandhomme got picked ahead of Doug Bracewell. Also, the leg-spinner Ish Sodhi found a place ahead of Todd Astle.
The Kiwis will be led by Kane Williamson and the squad is a pretty strong one. They have experienced batsmen like Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham. The pace attack is also lethal that comprises of Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson. Also, there are quality all-rounders and skilled spinners in the squad.
