Will Jacks Adapting to Number Three Position in IPL 2024

Royal Challengers Bangalore‘s (RCB) batting all-rounder, Will Jacks, has been making waves in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season with his remarkable adaptation to batting at the number three position. Jacks, who joined RCB in the 2022 season and unfortunately missed the 2023 season due to injury, has shown exceptional prowess in his new role, demonstrating his versatility as a cricketer.

In RCB’s recent match against Gujarat Titans, Jacks showcased his batting prowess by scoring a stunning 100-run knock from just 41 balls at a remarkable strike rate of 243.90. His innings, which included 10 sixes and five fours, underscored his ability to accelerate the team’s score and build crucial partnerships in the middle overs.

Speaking about his new role, Jacks expressed his commitment to adapting to the challenges of batting at number three. He revealed that he began batting at this position during England’s series against the West Indies in November, and while it presents unique challenges, he is focused on making the adjustment.

“It is something that I am adapting to. I started doing it in November in the Caribbean for England, so I have probably done it ten or a few more times. It is different. The hardest thing I found was coming in outside the powerplay. Normally when you face the first ball, you get a few to look at, and you can get your easy boundaries away and get yourself rolling whereas outside the powerplay, you have to play yourself in and it is harder to be 17 or 18 off ten balls,” Jacks explained.

Despite the challenges, Jacks is confident in RCB’s ability to score big and put pressure on opposing bowlers. He emphasized the team’s focus on achieving 200-plus scores, a target that has become increasingly common in the IPL. According to Jacks, RCB has been successful in executing their strategy by taking calculated risks at the right moments and maintaining a simple yet effective approach to batting.

“We spoke long and hard about how to get to those 200-plus scores that we have seen across the competition. And we have been doing that well, taking risks at the right time and putting bowlers under pressure. I wouldn’t say it adds more pressure. We just know what we have to do and we are keeping it simple and that’s what has been working for us recently,” Jacks added.

RCB, currently at the bottom of the IPL 2024 standings with three wins and seven losses, will be looking to Jacks to continue his impressive form and help the team secure crucial victories in the remaining matches of the season. With Jacks’ adaptability and determination, RCB fans can expect to see more impactful performances as the team strives to turn their fortunes around and make a strong finish in the IPL 2024.
