In a recent interview, Australian cricketer Steve Smith shared his admiration for Indian batsman Virat Kohli, particularly highlighting Kohli’s exceptional abilities in chasing targets. Smith, a former Australian skipper, described Kohli as the best chaser the game has ever seen, acknowledging his knack for turning games around in any situation.
Smith reminisced about facing Kohli on the field, admitting that Kohli’s presence at the crease is a constant threat to the opposition. He expressed the joy of witnessing Kohli’s special performances, acknowledging the frustration of playing against him. Smith referred to Kohli’s batting style as “extremely annoying” for the opposition captain, emphasizing the challenge of dismissing him.

“I don’t know about off-field memories, I’m not sure, but yeah look, he’s such a wonderful player, particularly chasing, he’s probably, well he is, he’s the best chaser that the game’s seen.”
When asked about any off-field memories with Kohli, Smith couldn’t recall any specific incidents but praised Kohli as a wonderful player. He highlighted Kohli’s ability to win games from any situation, making him a formidable opponent.
He added, “So, his ability to just win the game from any situation and while Virat’s at the crease, you know the game’s not done. So yeah, he’s been a bit of a pain to play against in a way. But yeah, it’s always nice to witness someone do something so special and he’s done it on numerous occasions.”
“Yeah, it’s extremely annoying and he’s done it on too many occasions, so yeah, it’s always nice to see the back of him. So, but yeah, we’ve seen some incredible innings when he’s played against us as well. So, it’s nice to watch when he’s in full flight, but you’d wish him to do it against another opposition.”
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is currently participating in the IPL 2024, representing the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Kohli has been in exceptional form with the bat, leading the tournament’s run-scoring chart with 316 runs in five games. His performance has been crucial for RCB, although the team has struggled to secure victories, currently placed 9th in the points table.
