Warner’s New Zealand Tour Ends Early Due to Injury, Eyes Delhi Capitals Return

New Zealand is facing Australia in a T20 series. In the ongoing series, both teams are having some setbacks. Few players are facing injury concerns. David Warner is one of them. He is all set to miss the final T20 match against the Kiwis and expects to be back in IPL 2024.

Warner’s Injury and CA’s Statement:

David Warner will be absent from the final T20I against New Zealand in Auckland due to an adductor injury, but there are positive expectations for his fitness leading up to the IPL 2024 beginning next month. His absence in the second T20I on Friday was a strategic rest as part of Australia’s rotation plan during the series. The estimated recovery time for Warner’s adductor injury is around seven to 10 days.

After Warner’s injury, Cricket Australia gave an official announcement. In the statement, they said, “Warner will require a brief recovery period which is not expected to affect his availability for the upcoming Indian Premier League leading into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”

While his absence in the series finale marks the conclusion of his bilateral international career, it aligns with his planned retirement from Australia duty, timed to coincide with the upcoming T20 World Cup in June. Warner’s focus is now on recuperation and readiness for the IPL season ahead, aiming to return to action swiftly.

Other Changes in the Squad:

Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are likely to sit out of Sunday’s match after playing in the initial two games. Mitchell Starc and Spencer Johnson are expected to take their places as replacements. This decision is part of a strategic rotation plan to manage player workload effectively throughout the series. Resting Cummins and Hazlewood aims to keep them fresh and reduce the risk of injuries. Starc and Johnson are prepared to step up and contribute to the team’s success, showcasing the depth of talent available in the squad.

The three-match T20 series between Australia and New Zealand commenced on February 21. The Aussies won the first two T20 matches. After winning those matches, Australia already won the series. The third T20 is scheduled to take place on February 25 in Auckland. The Kiwis will try hard to register their win in this series.
