Virat Kohli talks about why his chemistry with Ravi Shastri works

Team India is bracing itself for the biggest challenge in 4 years. After the completion of the Indian Premier League, the Men in Blue will soon leave to take part in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 to be held in England and Wales. Until the mega event begins, the captain Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri will be in the center of all the questions regarding the preparation.

The Kohli Shastri combo did wonders

The team has done so well under the combination of Kohli and Shastri. Since Shastri took over as the coach, team India has achieved some significant victories at home and away. The biggest of them was the Test victory in Australia. In India’s hunt for the 3rd World Cup triumph, these two men will play a key role yet again.

In an interview with Cricbuzz, the duo talked about how the combination works and why it has produced so many results. Virat Kohli mentioned that the relationship with Shastri works in an automatic manner and the culture management is the biggest reason for the team’s success.

“It’s gone into a sort of an auto-mode now and the reason is because of the work that’s been put in over the last 15-odd months. Culture management has been the calling card and that’s something the team management has been particularly convinced about. The guys have responded to it beautifully. It’s a different picture that’s been pasted outside. Within the team we know the mindset we carry. We’re going with a group of people and this is not about individuals. This is everybody’s effort,” said Kohli.

When Ravi Shastri was asked about the same, he said that both individuals have a similar mindset. Both are aggressive by nature and that’s why the chemistry works so well.

“The hallmark of any successful team, or a great team – and term this team with both those adjectives – is the relationship between the captain, coach and the support system working around it. It becomes extremely important, because when two individuals are on the same page – and luckily, Virat and me are pretty similar in the way we think, aggressive in the way we think – that’s the time when you got to take your chances. That’s precisely what we’ve tried to do over the last three-four years and the performances speak across all formats. It holds us in good stead for the World Cup too,” said Shastri.
