Varun Chakravarthy May Miss T20 World Cup. Find Out

Despite being in exceptional form, Varun Chakravarthy may miss the T20 World Cup. Yuzvendra Chahal in that case is expected to replace him in the squad.

Varun Chakravarthy is expected to play a key role in the T20 World Cup. He has so far had a brilliant IPL season for Kolkata Knight Riders. He has already claimed 15 wickets in 13 games at an economy rate of 6.73. But he still can be kept out of India’s final squad for T20 World Cup. Reportedly, it is his knee injury that needs overtime work from the BCCI medical team to make him match-fit for the coveted event. The Indian squad can be changed till October 10. “Varun’s knees are not in greatest condition. He is in pain and trust me had it not been in a T20 World Cup, perhaps even Indian team management wouldn’t have taken the risk of playing him,” a BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on condition of anonymity.

The official also added, “As far as I know, the KKR’s support staff has prepared an elaborate strength and conditioning chart for Varun, which is a part of his larger injury management programme. He also is administered pain killer injections so that he can bowl his four overs without much difficulty. These are injections, till the time effect remains it helps the pain to subside. You can’t see it on TV, he looks in pain when he is not bowling and moving around the field.”

Due to his excellent form, the Indian team management is desperate to have him in the opening game against Pakistan. There are plans being made to make him available throughout the three-week tournament.

In case Varun Chakravarthy misses the tournament, Yuzvendra Chahal is set to take his place in the side. Chahal is also in tremendous form and has been winning matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second leg of IPL 2021.
