Shardul Thakur Is Similar to Ian Botham, Says a Former England Cricketer

MS Dhoni may tell Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri to include Shardul Thakur to the T20 World Cup. Michael Vaughan said the same in a Cricbuzz video after looking at Thakur’s performance in this year’s IPL.

MS Dhoni is the mentor of Team India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Dhoni, on the other hand is leading Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021 and Shardul Thakur is a part of the side. Thakur has impressed one and all with his performance in the league and hence, former England skipper Vaughan thinks that he should be part of India’s T20 World Cup campaign. While talking in a video, he said, “The mentor of Indian T20 team (MS Dhoni) is behind the stumps, he’s the captain of CSK and you probably think he’s gonna tell Virat and Shastri ‘you know come on…’”.

He added, Shardul has that ability to make things happen. He’s got that deceptive pace. You watch him bow, you think he’s just doing it normally but he’s a very good deception. The ball that got Ashwin, was just through him. He can surprise the batter and obviously the subtle variation that batsmen seem to find it difficult to pick. He’s certainly doing something with the ball that is deceiving the batters.”

He went on to compare Thakur with Ian Botham, one of the greatest all-rounders of all time IPL.“Thakur is very similar to Ian Botham. He makes things happen with the ball in hand. He did it in the Test series. He’s doing it in the IPL.”

Shardul Thakur like a bunch of others players impressing all in the IPL is not part of India’s initial T20 World Cup squad. But he has a chance to make it if the board decides to make changes in the squad. Time will tell if the luck favours him or not.
