Virat Kohli’s sudden decision of resigning from Test captaincy might have given a shock to the cricket world, reportedly his teammates were informed about it a day prior to the announcement. Kohli took to his social media accounts to share the news.
Kohli started by leaving the T20I captaincy announcement ahead of the T20I World Cup. Then he was replaced by Rohit Sharma in the One Day International. He was holding the position of the Test captaincy till the end of South Africa series that he decided to leave on Saturday. There are a lot of speculations regarding the reason behind his sudden call. Fans are discussing his relationship with the BCCI that went downhill in recent times. But whatever the reason was, statistically the most successful Test captain of Indian cricket team officially ended his tenure of seven long years.
In his statement, Kohli wrote, “Everything has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as Test captain of India, it’s now. There have been many ups and also some downs along the journey but there has never been lack of effort or lack of belief.” He added, “I want to thank the BCCI for giving me the opportunity t lead my country for such a long period of time and mor importantly to all the teammates who bought into th vision I had for the team from day one and never gave up in any situation. You guys have made this journey s memorable and beautiful.”
He thanked Ravi Shastri and MS Dhoni who had been influential in this journey. The news came a day after India lost the Test series to South Africa. Kohli who always backed his teammates in every situation, be it a nasty attack on Mohammed Shami or selection question of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara had informed his team one day ahead of announcing the news to the world.
After the news broke, his teammates also took to the social media to pay tribute to India’s most successful Test captain. They thanked him for throughout support, congratulated him for the stint.
