“Surya is making very good progress, and very soon he will be back playing for MI. However, he might have to sit out for a few more games, having missed the first two,” a BCCI source said.
Despite Suryakumar’s absence, the BCCI is prioritizing his long-term health, especially with the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA approaching in June. The board wants to ensure that the 33-year-old is fully fit and ready to play a key role in the tournament.
“For BCCI, the main concern is if he is on course for World T20 which he is. Obviously, he will play for MI, but after a sports hernia surgery, he can’t be rushed,” the source added.
Suryakumar Yadav, known for his wide range of shots and frequently compared to the legendary AB de Villiers, has been a vital player for Mumbai Indians in the past. With an incredible strike rate of 171.55 in T20 cricket, his absence has been keenly felt by the team.
Yadav has represented India in 60 Twenty20 Internationals, amassing 2141 runs, including four centuries. His performances in domestic and international cricket have made him a valuable asset for Mumbai Indians and Team India.
