Sunil Gavaskar’s verdict on KL Rahul’s comeback in the Asia Cup

India’s star-studded batsman, KL Rahul, seemed to have returned to the game while smashing convincing runs in some of India’s Super 4 stages of the World Cup. He further remained in the team till the last match, when India did the talking by lifting its 8th Asia Cup title.

Earlier, KL Rahul had to stay out of the initial Super 4 stages of the Asia Cup due to an injury, but his comeback to the other games had things planned differently for him. He chased 169 runs in three innings as a middle-order batsman for Team India. Not only this, the 31-year-old, during India’s clash against arch-rivals Pakistan, hit a ton of runs and smashed an unbeaten 111 runs.

“Very good to see him fit,” says Gavaskar

After India’s record-breaking win against Sri Lanka, former Indian cricketers went on to congratulate the team with heartwarming messages.

One such message was for KL Rahul from veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. Speaking to India today after India’s extraordinary win before the much-awaited World Cup, Gavaskar said that he is going to be the next big thing in Indian cricket and that he has proved his fitness level too.

Elaborating more on his part, Gavaskar added, “Very, very good to see him fit. We all knew what his quality was. He has proven it over such a long time. The only question mark would have been about his fitness, and in that century knock against Pakistan, he showed his fitness because it was not just a question of playing a long innings but also running between the wickets.”

Speaking on Rahul’s confidence level

Sunil Gavaskar further went on and said that there is no question about his abilities. He asserted his much-anticipated confidence in the match against Pakistan and that he should play with the same confidence in other upcoming matches as well. “The most important thing was self-belief, and he showed it in that particular century,” says Gavaskar.
