South African Spinner Shamsi Reacts to Mitchell Starc’s Mankad Warning to Kusal Perera in Australia Vs Sri Lanka Match

The 14th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is still underway at the Ekana Sports City in Lucknow. Though a marred rain delay has put the game to a pause with the first innings almost completed. Initially, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat hoping to put pressure on the Australian side. Sri Lanka has chased a total of 209 runs in 43.3 overs, mainly contributed by openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera

Both the opening batsmen put Sri Lanka on a flying start with Nissanka scoring 61 runs off 67 balls and Kusal with 78 runs off 82 balls. Though they displayed their dominance to an extent, Australia’s Pat Cummins turned the tables by dismissing both Nissanka and Kusal. Earlier when Kusal Perera was at the non-strikers end, a vivid scene caught everyone’s attention.

Mitchell Starc’s mankad warning

In a video which was posted by the International Cricket Council’s official Instagram handle, Mitchell Starc during his bowling delivery was seen warning Kusal Perera about mankading him at the non-striker’s end. The incident took place in the opening over only, with Kusal staying inside the crease after Mitchell’s warning. The video was actually captioned “The Australian bowlers have noticed something” while indicating that batter was behind the crease when Mitchell warned him of mankading.

Tabraiz Shamsi’s reaction

To this incident, South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi supported the warning and said Mitchell should have run out Kusal despite warning him. By commenting on the video posted by ICC, Tabraiz responded “He should do the right thing and run him out. The bowler is expected to bowl from behind the line, the batters know they are supposed to stay behind the line too.”
