South African legend AB de Villiers names his greatest T20 player of all time, and it is not who you think.

Former South African Captain and explosive batsman AB de Villers has finally broken his silence and spoken about whom he regards as the best T20 player of all time. AB, who himself is regarded as one of the best T20 players to have ever lived, has said that he regards Rashid Khan, the leg-spin allrounder from Afghanistan as the best T20 player ever.

Here’s De Villiers’ greatest T20 player of all time

In an interview with SuperSport, the former RCB player said, “My greatest T20 player of all time is none other than Rashid Khan. He delivers with bat and ball. Match winner in both departments; he is a livewire in the field and has got the heart of a lion. He always wants to win; he’s very competitive and right there with one of the best T20 players. Not one of the best, the best.”

When De Villiers was asked the question, people expected him to answer with former RCB teammates Chris Gayle or Virat Kohli. However, he surprised everyone when he chose Rashid over any of them.

The stats speak for themselves

AB de Villiers is not at fault for putting Rashid in such high regard. Time and again, Rashid has proved that he is an integral element of any team that he plays for. The right-arm leg spinner has appeared in 77 T20 internationals for Afghanistan, having picked 126 wickets at an economy rate of 6.22. Overall, Rashid has appeared in 382 T20 games and has picked up 514 wickets.

To top that, Rashid has also scored 1893 runs at an average of 12.62. Though his average  seems a little bleak, Rashid has played some really explosive cameos lower down the order, steering his team to victory on multiple occasions. Rashid is only one of the few players who have scored 1000 runs and 500+ wickets in T20 cricket.
