South Africa directly qualify for the World Cup 2023

Rain forced the cancellation of Tuesday’s opening ODI between Ireland and Bangladesh at the County Ground in Chelmsford, allowing South Africa to secure straight qualification for the ODI World Cup in 2023.

The eighth and last team to directly qualify for the CWC, which will be held in India later this year, was South Africa. The Proteas finished their 21 matches with 98 points.

Prior to this match, Ireland had 68 points. A clean sweep of Bangladesh by a score of 3-0 would have given Ireland 30 points, bringing them on par with South Africa’s 98 points, where the net run rate would have been relevant.

Ireland must now join the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and the Netherlands, along with five Associate nations, in the World Cup Qualifiers event due to the lack of a result.

The next step is for two of these 10 teams to advance to the world cup. With 175 points after 24 games, New Zealand led the super league standings, followed by England’s 155 points.

Match Summary

Little, Hume, and Adair shared seven of the nine wickets in this game to stop Bangladesh from scoring more than 246 following Mushfiqur’s 61. When Ireland began the chase, they lost their first three wickets for 65 runs before play was suspended by rain in the 17th over. Ireland was eventually obliged to take the Qualifiers route because of persistent showers and poor lighting, which prevented them from continuing the chase.
