Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the World Cup 2019 following his thumb injury. According to sources, Rishab Pant is included in the team as a replacement.
Shikhar Dhawan ruled out of World Cup
A source revealed to IANS that Dhawan is not in a position to take part in this tournament further. As a result, he has been ruled out. Shikhar Dhawan developed an injury during the match against Australia. He hit a brilliant century that helped India win the match with utmost domination. Post the match, it was revealed that he sustained a fracture in his left thumb and was rested for a few matches. The management was not ready to remove Dhawan so early and hence was eager to follow up on his treatment. It was reported that they would wait for 10-12 days for Dhawan’s progress. KL Rahul replaced Dhawan as an opener and Vijay Shankar debuted as the number four Indian bat.
Now, according to the reports, it is clear that Shikhar Dhawan will take a lot more time than two weeks to recover. A source told to PTI, “ The injury will not heal in time.” BCCI tweeted, “Following several specialist opinions, he will remain in a cast until the middle of July and therefore will not be available for the remainder of #CWC19”
Pant Replaces Injured Dhawan
Rishabh Pant, the promising wicketkeeper-batsman of India, was called to England as a cover immediately after Dhawan’s injury. Now Pant will be officially included to the 15-member Indian squad for the remaining matches of World Cup 2019.
This is a huge blow for the Indian cricket team. Shikhar Dhawan always plays his best in ICC events. Even this World Cup got an early glimpse of the same. Moreover, India began their World Cup campaign on winning note and have been unstoppable so far. Virat Kohli, although didn’t want to change the winning combination, he had to do it in the Pakistan match. But keeping the tougher contenders in mind the team management would definitely want Dhawan to get back to the crease. It will be interesting to see how Indian team stay on winning track in the latter part of the tournament and develop another winning combination.
