Shikhar Dhawan Likely to Lead India in the Asian Games

Shikhar Dhawan, who has been left out of the Indian side in all forms, is expected to make a comeback in the Twenty20 format. Dhawan has continued to be overlooked by the BCCI selection since Shubman Gill’s emergence as an all-format batsman who opens the innings for India. He is 36 years old and will only get older while the board is looking to invest in young people. The West Indies series ODI team has already been announced. Dhawan is not a member of that squad.

He is also likely to be overlooked when the Windies’ T20I squad is announced. However, the India opener is expected to be included in the India T20 team for the Asian Games in 2023.

The PTI Report said

According to a PTI report, Dhawan is expected to lead India at the Asian Games. The BCCI will make the selection on the Asian Games squad during its Annual General Meeting on July 7. The board will also define a strategy for developing stadiums for the World Cup at the same meeting. The BCCI and ICC have selected ten venues to host the tournament, with the majority of them requiring development work ahead of the big-wicket event.

Not to mention, BCCI has yet to identify a broadcaster and a jersey sponsor for the home season. “Playing conditions for Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Tournament (Impact Player Rule),” another item on the agenda stated.

Although the BCCI was not interested in competing at the Asian Games, it chose to send both the men’s and women’s cricket teams. Cricket returns to the Asian Games after a nine-year absence. It was last seen at the 2014 Incheon Games. Cricket was withdrawn from the list in Jakarta in 2018. While the BCCI will send the main women’s team, the men’s B team will attend the blockbuster tournament in Hangzhou.
