India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, climbed five places to secure the sixth position in the recent ICC Test Rankings released on March 13. After slipping out of the Top 10 in January, Rohit occupied the 11th spot before the Dharamsala Test. His outstanding performance, including a remarkable century, played a pivotal role in India’s victory by an innings and 64 runs. The impressive display catapulted him back into the top echelons of the Test rankings. 

Rohit Sharma presently holds 751 rating points, trailing Steve Smith by six points in the 5th position. Rishabh Pant, who recently received clearance for the IPL 2024 season, is the only other Indian in the top 20 rankings. Pant secures the 15th spot with 692 rating points. The rankings highlight Rohit’s and Pant’s noteworthy performances, positioning them among the top-rated players in the cricketing arena.

Maintaining his supremacy, Kane Williamson holds the top spot in the rankings with 859 rating points. Joe Root, despite a fluctuating form in the India series, secures the second position. Babar Azam climbed two spots to secure the third position in the list, boasting 768 rating points. These rankings reflect the dynamic nature of international cricket, showcasing the consistency of top players like Williamson and the resilience of others like Root and Azam in the latest ICC standings.

After a slow start in the five-match series, Rohit Sharma showcased a strong performance in the Rajkot Test, stabilizing India’s batting line-up. His crucial fifty during the run chase in Ranchi proved pivotal. In the fifth Test at Dharamsala, Rohit had a record-breaking day, scoring his 12th Test hundred. He scored 103 runs off 162 balls, including 13 boundaries and three sixes.

Throughout the series, Rohit amassed 400 runs in nine innings, averaging 44.44. His consistent contributions placed him as the fourth-highest run-scorer.
