Rohit equals MS Dhoni, becomes the most capped T20I player for India

Team India took the ground to seal the three-match T20I series against South Africa in Bangalore. With this the hitman of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma achieved a unique feat and equalled the Indian cricket legend, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

A failed series for Rohit

Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first in the final T20I match. With 1-0 lead Indian team obviously intended to win the series. Rohit Sharma, the Indian vice-captain started off pretty well and looked convincing. But he could add only nine runs in this match. Even his last outing was a disappointing one when his contribution was just 12 runs. Although Kohli justified his choice of batting first, India’s decision seemed to be a boomerang for them. The top order failed terribly and the team somehow managed to score 134 for the loss of nine wickets. In reply South African captain Quinton de Kock’s heroics won the match for the visitors.

A record by the hitman

In due course, Rohit Sharma matched MS Dhoni to become the highest capped player in T20I. Both have played 98 T20 international matches for India till now. The second position is the list is occupied by and Suresh Raina who has featured in 78 T20Is followed by the present India skipper Virat Kohli at the 4th place in the list with 72 matches thus far.

Former India skipper MS Dhoni’s played his last T20I this year against Australia. He made himself unavailable for the West Indies tour and South Africa after taking a sabbatical leave for two months initially. According to the reports, he extended his leave period and now is not available for the Bangladesh series. He will be in leave till November as per the news by Mumbai Mirror.

While there is a chance of Dhoni taking retirement from international cricket at any moment, Rohit is the regular member in limited-overs cricket for India. Undoubtedly Rohit has a better chance of holding this record for long.
