Rashid Latif, a former cricketer for Pakistan, staked a significant claim on the Indian teenager, who has already claimed six wickets in two IPL 2023 games.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Nitish Rana’s team by 23 runs on Friday night in Kolkata, preventing a late comeback by the Kolkata Knight Riders. Being the first team to bat, the KKR amassed a massive 228/4 in 20 overs, and the Knight Riders, who were struggling in the run-chase and were at 96/5 at one point, mounted a stunning comeback behind captain Nitish Rana (75) and Rinku Singh (58*). The pair ultimately failed to reach the goal, and SRH ended the season with a much-needed victory.
Spinner Mayank Markande, one of the team’s top players, pulled up two crucial dismissals of power batter Andre Russell and Narayan Jagadeesan (both of whom scored 36 off 21 balls) (3). Markande recorded outstanding statistics of 2/27 in four overs, conceding runs at a rate of just 6.75 in a match where 433 runs were scored overall.
Rashid Latif, the former Pakistani captain, and wicketkeeper-batter, has recently become a fan of the 25-year-old leg-spinner on the other side of the border. Latif was amazed by Markande’s speed in the air and even made a comparison between him and the star spinner from Afghanistan, Rashid Khan, who is presently ranked first among bowlers in the game’s shortest format.

“Remember that name, Mayank Markande. He has pace, he is fast through the air. Ravi Bishnoi is good, but he hasn’t succeeded in giving the ball that loop in the air. This guy is a Rashid Khan-type of the bowler with a different angle. Batters had difficulties reading his googly. We will see him in the future as well. I haven’t seen him play that much, but I saw him bowl yesterday and I think in two years’ time, he can be a great bowler,” Latif said on his official YouTube channel.
Markande made his international debut in February 2019. But since then he faded away and did not find many opportunities in the IPL. But he is looking threatening this IPL and will look to make his comeback to the international side with consistent performances in the IPL 2023.
