Harbhajan Singh Disappointed Over Team India Not Preparing For T20 World Cup, Advises BCCI To Do This

The ICC T20 World Cup is approaching fast, as it starts on June 2, 2024 whereas the final match for IPL is scheduled in the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, 26 May. This gives Team India very less time to prepare for the much more valuable ICC tournament.

India‘s first match is scheduled to be held on June 5, against Ireland in Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, whereas the much coveted and exciting face off between India and Pakistan is scheduled for 9 June, 2024 at the same venue.

Harbhajan laments India’s preparation

BCCI did not schedule a training camp for team India ahead of the ICC tournament, preferring the IPL. It must be taken into notice that team India has not been able to win a single ICC trophy since 2013, which was 11 years ago.

Speaking on the Star Sports Press Room show, IPL Official TV Host commentator and cricket expert Harbhajan Singh showed his disappointment over the IPL schedule and hoped that the BCCI would follow the ECB model in future ICC tournaments.

“I think with this IPL schedule it is so difficult to get everyone together to play some games. But yes, we have two matches in America before the tournament starts,” Harbhajan said.

“Yes, I believe it would have been better for them to have 4-5 games, you know collectively playing against some top team like England or Australia in America, just to get used to those conditions. But that doesn’t seem to be happening. But now, whatever small window we have, those two games, we have to make the best use of it. Going forward, it is a great suggestion. When you are playing a tournament like the World Cup or WTC, the team should play together for 10-15 days, it will be better,” he further added

England players called back before IPL playoffs for training

In a big and bold move, England Cricket Board (ECB) has called back all their players from IPL 2024, in order to practice for the T20 World Cup.

The players will not be able to participate in this year’s IPL after the league matches. Phil Salt, Jos Buttler and Sam Curran are all called back before the playoffs start. England will take on Pakistan in a four-match T20I series prior to the ICC tournament.

BCCI has not really scheduled any such training for team India, however there are 2 matches scheduled for the team in America, before the tournament starts.
