“We should have already qualified for the playoffs by now,” Ferreira admitted. However, he swiftly pointed out the extended nature of the IPL, highlighting the importance of the second half of the tournament. “The IPL is a long tournament, and obviously, the second half is important,” he emphasized.
Ferreira stressed the importance of learning from the recent loss and maintaining a positive momentum. “We had set out nicely by winning most of the games in the first half,” he said, acknowledging their initial success.
“This game against CSK is quite important,” he added, underlining the significance of the upcoming clash. Ferreira emphasized the need to avoid complacency, stating, “We have three games left, but we don’t want to leave it too late and put pressure on ourselves.”
Sharpening Skills and Embracing the Turner Pitch
Ferreira shed light on the team’s preparations for the upcoming match. “It is about training with the match intensity with the middle order so that when the moment arrives, your skills are sharpened, and you back yourself to pull the game through,” he explained. This focus on middle-order batting suggests a potential strategy to address any shortcomings exposed in the recent loss.
Recognizing the Chennai pitch’s reputation as a turner, Ferreira highlighted the crucial role of their spin duo, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin. “Since the track is a turner and will favour spin, spinners [Chahal and Ashwin] will play a big role in the game,” he predicted.
Adapting to the Chennai Heat
The scorching Chennai heat is another factor to consider. While acknowledging the challenge, Ferreira expressed confidence in the team’s acclimatization efforts. “I don’t think really that you can be 100% prepared because this heat and this humidity is crazy,” he admitted. “But hopefully, we have been training in this heat and this humidity the last two days so that should condition us to be ready for the game,” he added.
