Rahul Dravid Appointed as National Cricket Academy Head

The Indian cricket legend Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy, Bangalore. BCCI announced the same on Monday as Dravid was handed over the charge officially.

Conflict Solved

The announcement came much earlier but there were some issues of conflict related to Dravid’s job with India Cements. He was supposed to take over as NCA from July 1. But the Committee of Administrators told him to surrender his post as Vice- President of India Cements or be on leave till the time he serves NCA. India Cements preferred to send him on a leave to avoid any conflict of interest.

Rahul Dravid will be in charge of overall cricket related activities at NCA. He will be closely working with the head coaches of Indian cricket teams, men’s and women’s and also with the junior team coaches to oversee the overall development process. BCCI said in a press release, “Mr Dravid will oversee all cricket related activities at NCA and will be involved in mentoring, coaching, training and motivating players, coaches and support staff at the NCA.” It further added, “Dravid will also work closely with the National men’s and women’s Head coaches and coaches for India Developmental teams including India A, India Under 19, India Under 23 teams, in the identification of key training and development objectives,” the release added.

Focus on NCA

The board has not mentioned about the tenure of appointment for Dravid yet. He is the current coach of Under 19 and India A team. But according to BCCI, he will not be travelling with the junior teams for their entire tour. He will focus on NCA development more. A BCCI source said to PTI, “He will travel with India A and U-19 teams but not for the entirety of the tour. It is a much bigger responsibility and it will require him to spend more time at NCA than with the junior teams.”

The foremost work of Dravid will be to fill in the positions in NCA along with the BCCI general manager (operations) Saba Karim and NCA chief operating officer Tufan Ghosh.
