Purple Cap Holder of IPL 2023: Updated After PBKS vs MI Match 46

It was a mixed day for cricket fans. The first game between the Chennai Super Kings and the Lucknow Super Giants, which was expected to be a thriller, was washed away after the first innings due to rain. However, the second game compensated for it as Mumbai Indians chased down another 200+ target to defeat Punjab Kings on their own home ground. As the day came to a close, the Purple Cap race saw a lot of changes happening.

Just one over for Deshpande

On a slow track at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Tushar Deshpande got to bowl just one over. In that one over, he gave away just one run but didn’t pick up a wicket. Despite that, he is still on the 2nd spot in the Purple Cap list.

His teammate, Ravindra Jadeja produced one of the best bowls of this season to dismiss Marcus Stoinis, his only wicket of the game. However, has managed to push one spot, and has now landed on the 7th spot in the Purple Cap list. He has taken 14 wickets in 10 games at a decent economy rate of 7.17.

On the other hand, LSG’s most successful spinner this season, Ravi Bishnoi didn’t get a chance to bowl as the game was washed away, and the second innings couldn’t happen. Despite this, he has been able to hold the 10th spot in the Purple Cap race with 12 wickets in 10 games.

Arshdeep Singh and Piyush Chawla move up

Arshdeep Singh had a nightmare of a game as the left-arm seamer was blasted for 66 runs in 3.5 overs, becoming the most expensive bowler of the game. However, he did manage to pick up a wicket of Ishan Kishan. Because of this, he has climbed up to 3rd place in the Purple Cap list. His team would want him to let go of this game and focus on the upcoming games.

Quite contrary to this, Piyush Chawla, MI’s most successful bowler this season, has continued to impress with his leg spin. In a game where bowlers were finding it hard to keep their economy rates under 10 runs an over, not only did Piyush give away just 29 runs in 4 overs, but he also picked up two important wickets of Shikhar Dhawan and Matt Short. He is now seated in the 4th spot with 15 wickets in 9 games.
