Purple Cap Holder of IPL 2023: Updated After KKR vs RR Match 56

Rajasthan Royals have breathed new life into their IPL campaign with a truly awe-inspiring performance, erasing the disappointment of a string of underwhelming results. In a dazzling display of skill and dominance, they mercilessly dismantled the Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Eden Gardens. However, there have been a couple of changes in the Purple Cap list after tonight’s breathtaking encounter.

A new Purple Cap holder

Yuzvendra Chahal has emerged as the leading contender for the prestigious Purple Cap in IPL 2023 after a magnificent bowling performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Chahal’s crafty deliveries wreaked havoc on the opposition, resulting in crucial breakthroughs and propelling him to the top of the Purple Cap race.

Chahal’s remarkable night began with a key dismissal, as he induced an ill-timed shot from Nitish that was caught at deep backward square leg in the 11th over. This wicket propelled Chahal past Dwayne Bravo, making him the IPL’s highest wicket-taker. Chahal’s mastery over his craft was evident in his dismissal of Venkatesh Iyer as well, a classic death-overs wicket. He enticed the left-hander with a loopy delivery angled across him, luring him into a miscued shot that found a fielder inside the circle.

The leg-spinner ended up with figures of 4/25 in his 4 overs, making this his 3rd 4 wicket haul of this season. He now holds the Purple Cap with 21 wickets in 12 games, 2 more than Mohammed Shami, who is in the 2nd place with 19 wickets.

No wickets for Ashwin or Chakaravarthy

Despite the enthralling contest between the Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, two notable bowlers, Varun Chakaravarthy of KKR and Ravichandran Ashwin of RR, were unable to make an impact in the wickets column. Despite their best efforts, both bowlers went wicketless in the match. While Ashwin went for 32 runs in his 4 overs, Chakaravarthy bowled just 3 overs and went for 28 runs. Ashwin is in 10th place in the Purple Cap race whereas Varun Chakaravarthy is in 6th place.
