Purple Cap Holder of IPL 2023: Updated After CSK vs DC Match 55

Chennai Super Kings showcased an exceptional all-round display as they cruised to a resounding 27-run victory over the Delhi Capitals at the iconic Chepauk Stadium, propelling the four-time champions closer to a coveted spot in the IPL playoffs. However, not much has changed on the Purple Cap list after tonight’s encounter.  

Deshpande goes wicketless

In a rare sight, CSK’s most successful bowler this season, Tushar Deshpande went wicketless against the Delhi Capitals. However, the right-arm pacer was good with the ball nonetheless. Deshpande bowled 3 overs in tonight’s encounter and gave away just 18 runs, thus marking one of his best spells this season in terms of economy rate. 

Deshpande has continued to hold 3rd place in the Purple Cap race after the game between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals. The 27-year-old has 19 wickets in 12 games at an economy rate of 10.01. His economy has dropped significantly as he was giving away runs at almost 12 runs per over when the tournament started. 

Jadeja moves up

Ravindra Jadeja has also been making his mark with the ball this season. The left-arm spinner has been steady in his bowling, taking a wicket or two in almost every game. Even in tonight’s encounter against the Delhi Capitals, Jadeja got the important wicket of Riley Rossouw to bring his tally of wickets to 16. Moreover, he gave away just 19 runs in his 4 overs, at an impressive economy rate of 4.75. Jadeja has not moved up one spot, from the 8th to the 7th in the Purple Cap race.
