Orange Cap Holder of IPL 2023: Updated after CSK vs GT Qualifier 1

In a thrilling contest filled with several twists and turns, the Chennai Super Kings defeated the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2023 to enter the final for a record 10th time. Even though it was a difficult track to bat on at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, a few batters did well and further elevated their positions in the IPL 2023 Orange Cap list.

The Conway-Gaikwad duo moves hand in hand once again

The opening duo of Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad has been one of the best opening pairs in the season and has been one of the major reasons for CSK’s successful run this season. The duo delivered once again when it was needed the most and helped the Chennai Super Kings enter the finale of the IPL 2023. On a difficult batting track, the duo put up 87 runs for the first wicket in just 10.3 overs before Gaikwad was removed by Mohit Sharma.

However, Gaikwad had done the required damage by then as he scored 60 runs in 44 balls, laced with 7 fours and a six. Conway continued nonetheless and scored a steady 40 runs in 34 balls while wickets kept tumbling from the other end. Both batters have found themselves in strong positions in the IPL 2023 Orange Cap list. While Devon Conway is in the 5th position with 625 runs, Ruturaj Gaikwad is just one step behind him with 564 runs.

Gill just inches away from stealing the Orange Cap

On the other hand, Shubman Gill has moved very close to stealing the Orange Cap away from RCB skipper Faf du Plessis. Gill’s inning was rather slow as he scored 42 runs from 38 balls but it was enough for him to move closer to the Orange Cap dream. Shubman Gill now has 722 runs in 15 games and is only 8 runs behind Faf du Plessis’s 730 runs. With GT playing in the Qualifier 2, we can expect that Gill will overtake Faf to take away the Orange Cap from him.
