Ongoing India-South Africa ODI Series Called Off

The ongoing India South Africa series has been cancelled due to the outbreak of coronavirus. Just minutes after the news of England-Sri Lanka Test series getting called-off, this news has made to the headlines.

South Africa to leave for home soon

South Africa team is currently in India to play three-match ODI series against India. Their first match at Dharamshala was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain. Now the reports suggest that the remaining two ODIs scheduled for Lucknow and Kolkata have been cancelled as well because of the serious coronavirus outbreak across the country and world.

Earlier the two remaining matches were decided to be behind the door without the crowd. Meanwhile, both sides reached Lucknow and players were seen wearing masks at the airport. Now the Proteas players will reportedly catch the earliest available flight to reach home. A top BCCI official informed to the PTI, “The South African team will come to Delhi and leave by taking at the earliest available flight.”

IPL postponed till mid-April

It has been an eventful day for cricket so far especially in India. The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League got postponed till April 15. The Road Safety World Series involving legends of cricket got cancelled as well which was being played in India. Now the ongoing series between India and South Africa has affected by the Covid-19 outbreak too.

In fact, the official quoted by the PTI referred to the IPL while speaking about the cancellation. “With the IPL being postponed, it only made sense that at this point of time, this series is also called off. The country is facing a serious pandemic.”

This becomes the second international cricket series to be impacted by the global pandemic after the England-Sri Lanka Test series. England Cricket Board discussed with Sri Lanka Cricket to take a final call on the same safeguarding the health interest of the players and support staffs.
