New Selection Panel To Choose Indian Squad For SA Series

Sourav Ganguly confirmed that a new selection panel will be picking the squad for India’s limited-overs series against the Proteas at home. Indians after their devastating New Zealand tour are all set to play a three-match ODI series against South Africa scheduled to begin from March 12.

New selection panel to take call for SA series

Virat Kohli’s team is coming back to the country with a bitter experience from New Zealand. The Black Caps lost the T20I series but went on to claim the ODI series and the two-match Test series as well. Now the team will take on South Africa in an ODI series at home. According to the BCCI president, the squad for the same will be named by a new selection panel.

Hours back today in Mumbai, Sourav Ganguly mentioned that the Cricket Advisory Committee consists of Madal Lal, RP Singh, Silakshana Nail would conduct interviews to appoint a new selection panel replacing the outgoing chief selectors MSK Prasad and Gagan Khoda. The CAC was appointed on January 31 2020.

Meeting to be held on Wednesday

Ganguly went to Mumbai to attend the CAC meeting to discuss further activities and taking call on the selection panel interview was definitely one of the agendas. The eligibility criteria for senior men selectors is that the candidates applying for the post must have played at least seven Test matches or 30 first-class matches, or 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches.

Ganguly did not just confirmed that the onus would be on the new panel to select squad for the upcoming home series, he also informed to ANI about the schedule of the interviews. “The interviews will be conducted tomorrow.”
The meeting between the BCCI officials and the newly-appointed three CAC members was held at the BCCI headquarters on Tuesday. Apart from Ganguly, BCCI secretary Jay Shah and Indian Premier League’s (IPL) chairman Brijesh Patel were present at the meeting.
