Netherlands defeat Nepal to Win the Tri Nation Series

In a heartbreak to Nepal fans, The Netherlands won the tri-nation series today against Nepal in the last-over thriller. Netherlands won the final by four wickets. Netherland’s opener Michael Levittc was the top scorer for the team, scoring 54 runs in just 29 balls. Middle-order batsman Sybrand Engelbrecht also also 48 runs in 29 balls.

Earlier, Nepal had set a challenging target of 185 runs for the Netherlands to clinch the T-20I triangular series title. Batting first after winning the toss at the TU International Cricket Ground, Nepal posted a total of 184 runs, losing 8 wickets in 20 overs.

Opener Ashif Sheikh scored a brisk 47 runs off 37 balls, Gulshan Jha scored 34 runs off 25 balls, Kushal Malla 26 runs off 11 balls, captain Rohit Paudel 25 runs off 19 balls, and Kushal Bhurtel added 20 runs off 10 balls.

In the death overs of the innings, Nepal lost four wickets in quick succession within just eight balls. Kushal Malla was dismissed on the first ball of the 18th over, followed by Karan KC on the last ball. Subsequently, Gulshan Jha fell on the first ball of the 19th over, and Aasif Sheikh on the second ball.

For Netherlands, Fred Klaassen, Timm van der Gugten, Michael Levitt, and Sybrand Engelbrecht took 2 wickets each.

Despite a slow start in the series, Nepal had displayed promising performances in the last two games.

With 5 points from 4 games, the Netherlands secured their spot in the final, closely followed by Nepal in second place with 4 points. Namibia’s with 3 points finished third and was eliminated from contention for the final.

On Saturday, Nepal secured a spot in the Tri-nation T20I Series finals by defeating the Netherlands by six wickets at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. Restricting the visitors to 120 runs, Nepal chased down the target with ease, losing only four wickets and having 28 balls to spare.
