Mustafizur Rahman Opts Out of Alcohol Brand Logo on CSK Jersey for IPL 2024 Debut

In a gesture of respect for Mustafizur Rahman‘s religious beliefs, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) allowed the Bangladeshi pacer to wear a jersey without the logo of an alcohol brand during his debut match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Rahman was acquired by CSK at the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai for his base price of INR 2 crore.

Playing against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening match of the 17th season at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Rahman’s jersey stood out as it lacked the logo of SJ Alcohol Brands, a corporate sponsor of the franchise. Reports suggest that Rahman declined to wear the alcohol brand’s logo on his kit due to his religious background.

This act of Rahman follows a trend set by other cricketers like Hashim Amla, Imran Tahir, Moeen Ali, and Rashid Khan, who have also chosen to not display logos of alcohol or other intoxicating products on their jerseys due to their religious beliefs.

Rahman’s on-field performance matched his off-field stance, as he played a crucial role in CSK’s victory against RCB. He claimed impressive figures of 4/29, his best in the IPL, earning him the Player of the Match award. CSK successfully chased down RCB’s total of 173/6, securing a win with six wickets and eight balls to spare.

CSK will next face Gujarat Titans in their second match of the season on Tuesday, March 26, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. This match is a rematch of last year’s final, where CSK emerged victorious. Both teams will enter the match on the back of wins, with Gujarat Titans defeating Mumbai Indians in their opening match.

Fans can anticipate an exciting encounter between the Titans and Super Kings as both teams aim to continue their winning momentum in the IPL 2024 season.
