Misbah-ul-Haq Resigns from Chief Selector Post

After days of speculation, Misbah-ul-Haq being appointed as head coach  chief selector, Former Pakistan captain has resigned from the PCB Cricket Committee after applying for the national team’s head coach.

The Story

Misbah, on Monday, confirmed that he was applying for the head coach job. He submitted a last-minute application as the deadline ended on Monday. On a statement, he said, “It has been interesting to see my name being mentioned as a future head coach of the Pakistan cricket team, but the fact is I only made the decision today.”

He added that he was applying although there are huge competitions for one of the most challenging jobs in the game. “I am applying for the head coach’s role fully aware that the competition will be tough as I envisage there will be a few more very competent and highly qualified people applying for one of the most challenging jobs in the game.” He was already the chief selection in the board so it did make strange headlines speculating he would play the dual role. But then Misbah met PCB Director International Cricket Zakir Khan. Following which the resignation came.

New support staff to join Pakistan

The board does not want to renew the contracts of former head coach Mickey Arthur and his support staff after the World Cup. They advertised for the post of the head coach and support staff on August 9. On Monday, the PCB announced the former Test batsman Ejaz Ahmed would be the new head coach of the under-19 team. Ejaz was chosen from a list consisted of candidates like Saqlain Mushtaq, Kabir Khan, Atiq Uz Zaman, and Shahid Nazir.

Former captain Waqar Younis applied for the post of a bowling coach. Although he had thought about submitting his resume for the head coach but with Misbah in the race, he preferred the bowling coach’s role. On the other hand, according to PTI news, the board has not received applications much high profile foreign coaches as yet and the best-known candidate is former Australian batsman Dean Jones.
