Laxmipati Balaji Wants MS Dhoni For Any Big Tournament

The world of sports including cricket has been majorly affected by the ongoing global pandemic. But if one has to name one cricketer who has been at the loss, it has to be MS Dhoni. IPL 2020 was supposed to be the stage of the comeback of Dhoni. The future of IPL remains in doubt but meanwhile, a former cricketer clearly showed his support for MS Dhoni.

Balaji on Dhoni

Laxmipati Balaji, ex-cricketer and Chennai Super Kings’ bowling coach said that Dhoni has enough ability to showcase and should be a part of the T20 World Cup squad. To Balaji, MS Dhoni should be an automatic choice for any big tournament. As it is important to add the best players for every slot, MS Dhoni should be selected for the big tournament.

“It is entirely up to selectors but if you ask me, I would always go with MS for any big tournament. Beyond his finishing skills, there are a lot of things he brings to the table. It is about having multiple inputs in a team game. When it comes to winning big tournaments, we can’t have makeshift players as it leads to uncertainty. It is about having the best players for every slot.”

Future of IPL and World Cup

Dhoni who has not featured in any cricket match since India’s World Cup exit in 2019, was expected to return to action with the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. Chennai Super Kings clearly mentioned that former World Cup-winning Indian captain would be leading CSK even in this season of the IPL as well.

But the pandemic situation forced the Indian cricket board to call off the IPL for the indefinite time. Earlier the speculations suggested that it might be a curtailed tournament in the month of July-September, it was also suggested that IPL might travel to abroad. The situation is such that the BCCI does not want to commit anything right now. There is also a chance of the ICC T20 World Cup gets cancelled this year. The men’s version is scheduled to be held in October-November in Australia. But the COVID-19 situation globally and specifically in Australia may not be able to host the tournament in the scheduled period.
