KKR’s Turbulent Journey: From Guwahati to Varanasi, Rain-Delayed Return Home

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced a challenging journey back home after their IPL 2024 game against the Lucknow Super Giants. Scheduled to land in Kolkata at 7.25 pm, their flight was diverted to Guwahati due to inclement weather. Despite several attempts to land in Kolkata, the flight was redirected to Varanasi, where the team spent the night at the Taj Ganges hotel.

A member of the KKR media team provided updates on the situation. The flight, which left Guwahati for Kolkata at 11 pm, couldn’t land due to bad weather and was diverted to Varanasi. The team is expected to fly back to Kolkata at 1.15 pm on Tuesday.

Fortunately, KKR has a week’s gap before their next game, allowing them time to recover from the unexpected journey. Their next match is against the Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens on Saturday. They will then play against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on May 13 and the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on May 19 to conclude their league engagements.

Kolkata experienced torrential rain on Monday, following record-high temperatures in recent days. Images on news broadcasts and social media showed waterlogged streets, indicating the severity of the weather conditions.

Despite the challenges, KKR remains focused on their upcoming matches, aiming to maintain their momentum after securing the top spot on the IPL 2024 points table with a convincing win against the Lucknow Super Giants.
