This marks Phil Salt’s return to the IPL, having been part of Delhi Capitals last year. His inclusion in KKR’s squad for the upcoming season adds depth and experience to the team. The Knight Riders’ decision to secure Salt’s services at his reserve price showcases their strategic approach to reinforcing the squad after Jason Roy’s withdrawal. IPL has given an official statement on that matter. The statement said, “Kolkata Knight Riders have named Phil Salt as a replacement for Jason Roy after the latter pulled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024 owing to personal reasons. Having remained unsold in the auction after representing Delhi Capitals last year, this will be Salt’s second season in the IPL.”
Later they added, “Bought at his reserve price of INR 1.5 crore, the aggressive wicket-keeper batter from England scored two consecutive T20I centuries against the West Indies in December last year. His 48-ball century in the 4th T20I at Trinidad is also the joint-fastest for England.”
In his debut IPL season in 2023, Phil Salt featured in 9 matches for Delhi Capitals, amassing 218 runs at an average slightly above 23. Notably, he showcased an impressive strike rate of 163.91, and his highest score was 87, achieved during a successful chase against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Salt’s impactful performances demonstrated his ability to contribute significantly to the team’s batting lineup and added value during crucial moments in the tournament.
