However, Gaikwad’s valiant stand was eventually broken by Arshdeep Singh, halting his innings and leaving a significant void in Chennai’s batting order. Despite contributions from Moeen Ali and MS Dhoni, the disciplined bowling performance from Punjab Kings limited Chennai Super Kings to a modest total of 162/7 in their allotted 20 overs. As the innings progressed, Shashank Singh and skipper Sam Curran anchored the pursuit with composed contributions, guiding Punjab Kings to a convincing 7-wicket victory.
However, Chennai Super Kings’ bowlers faced challenges in defending their total, with debutant Richard Gleeson offering an early breakthrough by dismissing Singh. Despite Shivam Dube’s crucial wicket of Bairstow and Shardul Thakur’s dismissal of Rossouw, Chennai struggled to contain Punjab’s batting onslaught, ultimately conceding defeat in the encounter.
Changes in the Points Table:
Punjab Kings’ 7-wicket win against Chennai Super Kings brought some impactful changes in the points table. After the defeat, Chennai is still standing in the fourth position of the points table. But Punjab Kings climbed up to the seventh position. Gujarat Titans were also affected by the win. They slipped into the eighth position of the points table.
