“I’ve always wanted to be” Zak Crawley Aims for Major Role in England’s White-Ball Squad, Ready to Unleash New Shots

England cricket has produced a number of cricket talents who set an example of cricket brilliance in their career. In England’s Test side, Zak Crawley is a familiar name. In the longest format, he is an explosive opener. But his magic is missing in the white-ball format. He thinks he will be well-suited for that format.

Crawly on White Ball Format:

England Test opener Zak Crawley aims to secure a consistent position in England’s limited-overs squad. Despite debuting in 2021, Crawley has featured in just eight ODIs, averaging 28.42. Notably, he is yet to earn a spot in the T20 team. Looking forward, Crawley is determined to enhance his presence in white-ball cricket, aiming for more opportunities to contribute to England’s success across all formats of the game.

While talking about it, he said, “I’ve always wanted to be a good white-ball player. I’m trying to add a few other shots to my game, but I feel like it’s quite suited and I’ve gone well in T20 cricket in the past when I’ve had a run at it.”

Later he added, “In the last few years, things weren’t particularly going so well so I wanted to concentrate on the red ball and stay in that team – it was always my priority for me to play Test cricket. That will always be my number one format – it means the most to me – but playing any format for England is a huge honour and playing white-ball cricket is something I really want to do.

He is working hard to achieve his pals. He said, “I’m trying to add a bit more power to my game, I’m working hard in the nets trying a few different things to hopefully hit more and bigger sixes.”

Comeback From the Bad Form:

After facing some terrible bad form, the English opener came out of the phase. After that, he played 16 Test matches and scored plenty of runs including two exceptional centuries. His average was 41.60. In that matter, he said, “When I was in bad form in 2022, I found myself reading a lot more [criticism]. But luckily I’ve got out of that trend now and I don’t read positive or negative.”

Initially this year, England traveled to India for a five-match Test series. Zak Crawley was a member of this squad too. In that series, he performed well. In the second Test, he scored 149 runs in both innings. In the last Test match, he scored another innings of 79 runs.

While talking about the India tour, he said, “In India I was trying to get into this headspace where the results were pre-determined – ‘I’ve done all my work’, leave it up to fate. That helped massively to realise I’m not in control of the result – just go out and play.”
