Ishan Kishan Responds to Ranji Trophy Saga and BCCI Contract Controversy

Mumbai Indians‘ wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has opened up about his absence from the Ranji Trophy and missing out on a BCCI central contract ahead of IPL 2024. Kishan, along with Shreyas Iyer, faced the repercussions of missing the domestic tournament after the BCCI sent a warning to centrally-contracted players.

Speaking after Mumbai Indians’ victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kishan shed light on the challenges he faced during his time away from the game. “I was practicing. When I took time off from the game, people were talking a lot. Many things came on social media. But you should also realize that many things are not in the hands of the players,” Kishan said.

He emphasized the importance of utilizing the time properly and shared insights into his changed mindset. “The only thing you can do is utilize the time properly. Also, the mindset to think about the previous Ishan Kishan, I would never leave a delivery in the first two overs even if they are bowling well. With time I have learnt that even 20 overs is a big game, you can take your time and you can go ahead,” he added.

Despite Mumbai Indians’ initial struggles in IPL 2024, Kishan has been in fine form, leading the team’s resurgence with his impressive performances. Against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kishan smashed 69 runs off 34 balls, guiding his team to a comfortable victory.

Reflecting on his approach to the game, Kishan emphasized the importance of patience and adaptability. “Even though we have lost matches, we want to work together as a team. Changes have come like even if I am not performing and if I know someone else is not performing, I talk to them. I want to know what they are thinking. So these are things which helped me in the break,” he said.

Kishan’s stellar performances in IPL 2024 have put him in contention for a spot in India‘s T20 World Cup squad. A good showing in the tournament could further bolster his chances of representing the country on the global stage.
