Chennai Super Kings pull off a one-sided affair

In a match where the ball was grappling with an uneven surface, the Chennai Super Kings‘ pace trio comprising Matheesha Pathirana, Deepak Chahar, and Tushar Deshpande exhibited a stunning display of bowling, collectively claiming seven wickets to confine Mumbai Indians to a meager 139. Subsequently, the Super Kings confidently chased down the target with a six-wicket victory, barely encountering any obstacles. 

Deepak Chahar‘s quick-fire twin strikes in the third over had Mumbai Indians struggling at 14 for 3. Although Nehal Wadhera and Suryakumar Yadav initiated a recovery by adding 55 runs, Pathirana’s incredible bowling performance in the death overs applied the brakes to Mumbai’s momentum. The five-times champions managed to score only 17 runs while losing four wickets in the last three overs, as Wadhera’s commendable fifty turned out to be a lone fighting effort.

The Super Kings’ emphatic win propelled them to the second position on the points table, despite the third-placed Lucknow Super Giants having an extra game in hand. On the other hand, Mumbai’s loss places them in the sixth position, adding to their woes in the ongoing tournament.

Delhi display batting prowess in the second game of the day

The Delhi Capitals have displayed outstanding performance, belatedly showcasing their potent batting prowess in the tournament. Their incredible exhibition of boundary-hitting left the home crowd in awe, with Phil Salt’s remarkable 87 off just 45 deliveries as the centerpiece of their victory against RCB, which they achieved with a whopping 20 balls to spare.

Salt’s scintillating knock was particularly impressive, given his recent poor form, which saw him registering three ducks and just one score over 10 in his last five T20 innings. The right-handed opener exhibited sheer dominance, sending five of his six sixes over the leg-side boundary, mainly through powerful horizontal-bat shots.

The Capitals’ chase began on a strong note, as Salt and his opening partner provided the team’s first half-century opening stand of the season. Salt, however, continued his unrelenting assault, bringing the asking rate down to under six in no time. The team raced to 70 runs in the powerplay and reached 115 runs by the end of the 10th over, with Salt achieving his well-deserved half-century off just 28 balls. The DC batters continued to dominate, plundering 24 runs off a single over by Harshal Patel and reducing the chase to a mere 32 runs off 42 balls. 

Despite eventually being bowled out for an incredible 87, Salt’s eight fours and six sixes played a pivotal role in the Capitals’ triumphant victory, as they defeated RCB for the first time in three years. The victory marked the Capitals’ fourth win in their last five games and helped lift them from the bottom of the league table. Delhi Capitals are now in the 9th position on the Points Table with 4 wins in 10 games. Royal Challengers Bangalore, however, remain on the fifth.
